We kindly inform that on 13th January 2023 there will take place an artistic-academic conference titled

Artistic Research Today

the conference organized by the Doctoral School of Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow.

What are the possible trajectories of artistic research? Taking into consideration the personal understanding of art and ever-developing sense of individualization of scientific research, there cannot be a simple answer to this question.

The methodology of artistic research is not a uniform process and as such may include continuous developement and expanding of boundaries. Niche areas of interest, conducted by people who do art lead to establishing cooperation with organisations not at all imagined to be connected to artistic fields, while working with places unusual for doing queries may lead to expanding horizons and attaining knowledge one might have been unaware of previously.

On the other hand, applied branches of art, i.e. design or conservation, seem today to be inextricably linked with scientific disciplines. Their further development can be seen in the context of cooperation with professions from seemingly distant fields of art.

Looking for unconventional solutions, deepening social sensitivity or cooperation with business centers – these are all areas in which art and other parts of life overlap. During our conference we hope to listen to perspectives of people who deal with this sort of borderlands, who implement unusual ways to seek data or who present in their research an artistic angle regardless of whether or not they do art professionally.
